The violations were in the men's and women's track program and involved the provision of impermissible inducements and extra benefits to 22 prospective and enrolled student-athletes over a seven-year period. The case also involved academic fraud and unethical conduct.
The university self-imposed penalties to include a three-year postseason ban for the 2004-05, 2005-06 and 2006-07 indoor and outdoor seasons. Additional penalties that the committee imposed were: public reprimand and censure; two years of probation; vacation of all NCAA, school and conference individual records when the involved student-athletes should have been declared ineligible, further, all team results will be reconfigured to reflect the vacated records/results; show cause order for a period of eight years for the former head coach and annual compliance reporting required.
