Major Infractions Case

Long Island University

May 04, 2026

Pursuant to Bylaw 19.10.6, this resolution has no precedential value. This case centered on improper certifications that occurred over a four-year period. Specifically, during the 2020-21 through 2023-24 academic years, the institution improperly certified hundreds of student-athletes in over 30 sports. The student-athletes did not meet initial-eligibility requirements and/or complete NCAA required forms (e.g., student-athlete statement and drug testing consent) requirements. As a result of the erroneous certifications, LIU permitted nearly 200 student-athletes to compete and receive actual and necessary expenses while ineligible or not certified.

Three years of probation; a $30,000 plus 3 percent fine of the four highest budgeted sport programs involved in the violations; two-week recruiting ban for all programs involved in violations during the first year of probation; participation in external reviews and volunteering for an NCAA Academic Performance Program (APP) review; required NCAA Regional Rules Attendance; and vacation of records.
